i have just finished modelling the main building ive learned that modular building this piece has speeded up my workflow on this project, the next step is to optimize the building as efficiently as possible, which is the easy bit :) once that is done i will combine the piece and merge the verts so that there is no seems when reconstructing in udk, its coming along in due time, i chose to model the window frames on the windows i know that adds more polys but it will save texture space as i can use tileable textures instead of a unique texture space for the windows.
ok ive managed to building the main modular pieces, what i will do next is make sure everything snaps nicely to the grid so it aligns better i will have to merge some pieces like the front 45 degree angle as it will need some bevelling to catch the lighting so far its coming along nicely im learning some more and building things in modular pieces is increasing my speed in making pieces next step is= -snap to grid -create unique pieces -optimize- so far is way to high but its faster to add in detail than having to optimize first then add detail -unwrap -building some high poly pieces to bake - texture (the fun bit!!!)) i've decided to put the sci fi scene on hold, as i have decided from the interviews and feedback from the industry pros is that for a junior environment artist, making buildings is key so i have have gathered 6 different types or buildings with interesting shapes, to make myself better and faster, with each piece offering challenges it should be hopefully make me a lot better and increase my chances of landing a junior artist role. this is the first of the 6 buildings to make i have decided to highlight the main modular pieces, i know there are more pieces but im trying to tackle the hard bits first ive created the front side, and duplicated one side of each piece, just as place holders to visualize how it will look at the end, next step is to make the side modular pieces and that will be half the battle done, then add the unique pieces and begin uving here is the high poly pillar, there's still some smoothing issues to fix, which I will go back to, but I need to start getting other pieces built before I refine each piece. This structure was difficult as it has a smooth shape combined with solid shapes I moved away front the reference due to cant really tell how the upper section is built. this is the generic modular floor piece I have made it tiles well, now I need to create 2 unique floor pieces with the same dimensions to make life easier on snapping them together This is an awesome concept piece which i found online, which i want to build, some of the areas are a bit lacking in detail which is hard to make outm but i have researched sci fi movie and reference pieces to add to some creative insights This is the concept piece- the best approach would be modular and apply vertex painting to add variation :) Here is my blockout 2 years after graduation and still no luck, just gotta keep on trying!
added landscape to the background to help give the 'complete' look to the scene,
just needed to added drainage system to the buildings and add some buildings signs on the buildings and move on for now, then go back to the matrix scene add in a subway train, vending machine, old sofa, trash can, some sort of train timetable sign after having played with the new decals and grunge textures
ive decided not to use udks decal system as i have tried using it but gives me very strange results so the quick way is to use alpha planes which will hopefully finish my scene |
